Autumn Salad

your choice of salad greens
tart apple
block cheddar
dried cranberries
sliced almonds
maple glazed turkey deli meat, not sliced but in one big piece

Dice apple, cheddar and turkey. Toss it all together.

General proportions: one head of lettuce=two bags of salad greens. For two bags, I use one apple and 1/2 pound of turkey and approx 1 c. diced cheese. Sometimes we substitute walnuts for the turkey, also yummy.

This sounds sooo good.

Peter & I have been seriously lame on the salad front lately (i.e. no salad or lettuce +1). I've love any fun warm or cold salad ideas. Also, ideas for how to make sure salad fixings don't rot before you get to them, or how to make prepping salads quicker and easier.

Has anyone ever made a Christmas fruitcake? Peter mentioned his mom made an amazing one. I am a neighbor by the way.

We used to have a real problem with Salad fixings rotting, but we don't anymore, and I don't know why. Probably Adrian will know, so I'll ask her to post the secret. I suspect it is thoroughly drying the lettuce, and not putting all the cucumber and red peppers and tomatoes in the same bowl. Lechuga in one bowl wet fixings in their own bowls combine when you eat the salad. Cheese, nuts, dried fruits are all in with the lettuce.

Thanks Spencer, that's helpful.

Yay R.O. for posting on brownfam!
I'm pretty sure I have the recipe for Peter's mom's fantastic fruitcake. I'll look for it....
